Ustad Ali Akbar Khan is without question a true master musician both of India and the world. A contemporary (and brother-in-law) of Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ali Akbar Khan is considered an even more intense and virtuoso performer. He is definitely one of the most accomplished Indian classical musicians of our time!
The recipient of the MacArthur Genius Award and a multi-Grammy nominee, he is admired by both Eastern and Western musicians for his brilliant compositions and his mastery of the sarode (a beautiful, 25-stringed Indian instrument). Combining his sarode with western instruments such as cello, violin, bassoon and oboe, this living musical treasure brilliantly merges the classical traditions of the East and West to produce music of astonishing beauty, depth and soul.
The title song, Garden of Dreams, explores memories of paradise and is an original raga composed by Khansahib( as his students affectionately call him). Dhani, with guest artist Zakir Hussain, features a wind section of oboe, bassoon and native Australian didgeridoo. Also featured in this recording (and producer) is the multi-talented Jai Uttal.
A great fusion of classical Indian music and Western instruments that will put you in a contemplative mood.
