The classical music of North India is an uplifting and extraordinary music, dating back thousands of years. Ali Akbar Khan is certainly one of the most accomplished Indian classical musicians of our time. Considered a National Living Treasure in India, he is admired by both Eastern and Western musicians for his brilliant compositions and his mastery of the sarode (a beautiful, 25-stringed Indian instrument).
In this recording, Western melodies and Eastern instrumentation co-mingle in the quasi-Asian soundscapes of legendary Indian performer Ali Akbar Khan. Journey features Khan performing on the sarode, alongside artists like Jai Uttal on keyboards/synthesizers (Uttal also produced the album), John Bergamo on drums and Shri Pranesh Khan on the tabla.
Among the North Indian classically-themed pieces present are Fantasy and Carnival of Mother Kali, each containg enchanting rhythms and lush instrumentation, and the 15-minute long traditional offering, Morning Meditation.
